Public Opinion
Opinions of British Columbians toward the use of public funds for
abortions has not changed. Over half of Canadians (57 %) still think
abortion should be financed through taxes but only in case of medical
emergencies such as, a threat to the mother's life or in the case of rape or
incest.
Only 29 % indicate that abortion should always be financed by health-funded
tax system and even fewer (12 %) think that abortion should be a private
responsibility (including Blue Cross or other private health plans).
In October of 2004, LifeCanada commissioned Environics Research Group to
conduct a poll of Canadians opinion on several important issues for the work
of Pro-Life groups across Canada.
